5 Tips For A Fantastic Senior Photoshoot

  1. Fill out the senior questionnaire

There is a good reason why I send you a questionnaire prior to our session. I want to get to know you and the things you like. This helps me tailor the session specifically to you, everything from location to poses/actions I have you perform. It also helps you get more comfortable in front of the camera if you feel like you’re shooting with someone who knows you a little bit rather than a complete stranger.

2. Bring Props/Accessories

To be honest, your photos are going to rock no matter what, but props can elevate any photo to the next level. Are you on the football team? Bring a football to pose with. Musician? Bring that guitar. Bring your favorite summertime hat or your favorite set of books. Anything that you think will emanate your personality through a photo, bring it. This tip is often overlooked, but it can be a game-changer.

3. Bring a friend

Who hypes you up more than your best friend(s)? Probably no one! Plus, I’m sure you’d love to get some photos with them in there as well. That’s right, I have no problem with taking a couple of double or group shots. In fact, I encourage this tip for just that reason! It helps add a little bit more diversity within your gallery and also makes the people you care about a part of the amazing experience. Also, no shame if your hype man is your mom or your dad! They can join in the pics as well.

4. Share Your Inspiration

This is a pretty broad tip, but it can really help shape your session. What inspires you? Do you have a Pinterest board with poses or senior photos that you want to try to emulate? How about your favorite Tiktok video with a jaw-dropping dance move that you want to utilize for a shot? We are all influenced by the things we consume, so if there’s any sort of inspiration that you want to bring to the shoot, I’m all about it.

5. Be Yourself

Yup, I could nearly hear you roll your eyes through the screen just now. This tip SOUNDS cliche, but it’s perhaps the most important tip. Why are you getting senior photos done? To remember and encapsulate this milestone year in your educational career. These photos should scream YOU, not the kid down the street. I want you to look back on these photos in five years and be proud of what we created together, and I want your family to love and cherish these photos as well, knowing that they fully embrace the person they love so dearly.
